About Voyage

VOYAGE was established in 1998 and eventually set up in 2002 as a charity to address issues of racial disproportionality in both the youth justice and in the education sectors across key London boroughs. Voyage was formed in response to key recommendations from the Macpherson Report and chose to promote its work in communities targeted by Police Operations – Trident, Blunt and Makepeace.

Through our powerful educational programmes VOYAGE is fully committed to addressing the racial imbalances in criminal justice and educational systems that are structurally failing Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in the UK. Using leadership and personal development VOYAGE seeks to build up community resilience and strengthen youth and community relations with the Police and help young people navigate their way through issues of governance, leadership community and social responsibility.

The Deputy Mayor of London in 2016 said:

“[We] commissioned the Voyage programme from 2011 – 2015 and continued to fund the delivery of the Young Leaders for Safer Cities programme until financial year 2015/16 due to its successes in addressing the root causes of youth crime.”

Countdown to handover

Through our emerging youth engagement cycle young leaders graduating through our projects and programmes will take up leadership roles in their school’s, communities and within Voyages charitable structure.

By 2020 Voyage will be led, managed and ran by young people.
