We work closely with schools to help young people reach their potential!

We are not in competition with schools, we see our programmes, projects and workshops as entirely complementary to the mainstream education process.

Our programmes can help schools receive an improved assessment from OFSTED due to our commitment to raising self esteem and confidence whilst improving decision making. Our programmes also help to improve school attendance and we have seen amazing transformation in young peoples standards of behaviour, decision making and attitudes to learning.

Everything we do is designed to ensure young people are better able to support themselves, and others, and to think more constructively about their lives beyond school.

Combining our efforts to develop Young Leaders

Young Leaders for Safer Cities is our flagship programme for schools.

We present the programme to a small or large group of young people at your school and identify those who would like to participate – or those who you feel would benefit most from the programme.

We then attend an open evening in schools to gain the support and involvement of parents where we encourage sign up to our programme.

We then work alongside the parents and teachers in question to ensure all participants complete our sign up form before they are invited to take part in the week long induction, weekend residential trip before completing the taught units at our ensuing Saturday sessions.

Our YLFSC programme runs from March to July and the difference in approach when the young person in question resumes school life at the start of the following academic year can be powerful and extraordinary.

It is also worth noting that successful completion of the YLFSC programme will count towards the leadership skills element of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme and get your child more noticed by higher education institutes and employers.

VOYAGE is always eager to work with educational institutions to complement agendas, curriculums and activities designed to support learning and attainment.

Helping schools to meet OFSTED targets and reach the Gatsby Benchmarks

VOYAGE believes its programmes, particularly Young Leaders for Safer Cities, can give significant assistance to schools and colleges seeking to attain effective outcomes from OFSTED Inspections and implementing the Gatsby Benchmarks.

This is a set of eight standards imposed by the Department of Education at the end of 2017.  Colleges have been warned they risk losing their grant funding if the benchmarks are not all in place by the end of 2020.

The Gatsby Benchmarks

  • A stable careers programme

  • Learning from labour market information

  • Addressing the needs of each pupil

  • Linking curriculum learning to careers

Our accredited YLFSC Course involves the engagement of external partners who provide deep insights into our taught studies and help animate the subjects with case studies, quizzes and challenges to deepen the learning experience. Our partners also provide industry insight talks on career pathways and help young people make informed study choices.

The YLFSC programme also includes the committed involvement of employer partners who offer a range of volunteering placements designed to encourage young people to become active and committed citizens. This has lead to young people being offered raised work experience, internship and residential opportunities.

Community Safety and Leadership Workshops

Know Your Rights

A series of workshops in schools and community organisation to spread knowledge of UK laws and police operations. We believe these procedures drive a wedge between young people from all backgrounds and the police and we want to change that.

Violent Crime

A powerful workshop delivered in schools, guiding young people of all ethnicities through scenarios, film and discussions to help them improve their reactions, decisions and choices. We aim to change young people’s attitudes to, and perceptions of, crime and raise awareness of the impact of violence.

Leadership Initiative

Young Leaders for Safe Cities (YLFSC)

An accredited BTEC course for people aged 14-15 taught in groups of up to 25. The YLFSC programme, developed by the VOYAGE team, aims to:

  1. Nurture young leaders to support and improve their communities; to tackle crime issues; and to improve community services from local providers. We want young people to be inspired to influence and shape local services.
  2. Help young people learn about leadership, citizenship and community social responsibility.
  3. Ensure the voices of young people are listened to and help to build and sustain relationships with others from across London.
  4. Provide support for progress from school to higher education, training and the world of work.

South Hackney Leadership Academy (SHLA)

The SHLA offers access to this unique programme to about 45 young people aged between 15 and 17. The academy provides a compelling framework that encourages educational progress and builds skills and confidence.

We bring together graduates of our YLFSC programme and young people from the local community and beyond for a high-quality, well-run course.

There is a need for programmes that both fill the gaps left by disappearing youth provision and combat the spectre of youth-related violence.

We demonstrate progression opportunities and engage professionals who can inspire our young people by demonstrating the possibilities ahead of them.

Young Black Positive Advocates

VOYAGE now has hundreds of graduates from its programmes who we encourage, through this open network, to share their experiences. That way they can continue to guide and inspire each other – and the next generation.

VOYAGE developed this unique personal development course to assist those aged 16 and over who are deemed at risk, are on managed exclusions or have limited educational options. It is a 10-week programme with optional mentoring to follow.

Young people who complete the course show significantly reduced levels of re-offending patterns and behaviour and greater resilience to peer pressure.

They have improved attitudes to study, work and those in positions of authority and, as a result, improved career prospects.
