The SHLA Summer University will take place on the following dates:

Week One: Monday 6th, Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th August 2018 from 10am to 4pm each day.

Thursday 9th August 2018 (Optional day trip to Southend)

Week Two: Wednesday 8th August – Saturday 18th August 2018 from 10am to 4pm each day.

The South Hackney Leadership Summer programme is not your typical summer scheme as it has been tailored to reflect our leadership vision whilst preparing young people for bigger and more progressive steps in life. Our sessions will be developmentally focused and experientially based combining debates, talks, fun, sports and team challenges. Our partners include Talawa Theatre, Met Police, Tutu Foundation, New City College, CHYPS Plus and many more

This year we have a number of different strands available to ensure our students are involved in supportive pathways that can help inform their choices of higher education study, help them choose where they intend to study and help them develop more awareness of the professions they wish to access in the long term. Our options are as follows:

  • Option 1 – Performing Arts (with opportunities to obtain a bronze level arts award)
  • Option 2 – Empowerment and Leadership (with opportunities to access work experience)
  • Option 3 – Skills for Life (with opportunities to access additional qualifications e.g. first aid)

Please be advised that the session on Thursday 16th August is a sports day and young people are advised to dress accordingly and bring a packed lunch.

The session on Thursday 9th August 2018 is an optional Day Trip to South Ends Adventure Island and will cost an additional £15. Again young people will need to make their own food arrangements

Saturday 18th August is our annual Summer BBQ which all parents and young people will be welcome to attend.

The summer programme is already in high demand so if you are interested in attending registration takes place on Monday 30th August 2018. You are expected to either print of and sign the form (attached below) or simply ask your child to collect it on Monday when we will expect to take authorisation from parents on the telephone. Without one of these in place we will not be able to accept your child onto the programme. In addition all young people must be committed for the whole week.

The summer scheme will be held at Hackney Community College and includes lunch meals, refreshments and all transport arrangements from the college to all outside events and activities.

We are offering this fun filled week for heavily subsidised price of £15 (excluding the day trip to Adventure Island) and £30 (including the day trip to Adventure Island) per graduate which must payable in advance on Monday 30th July 2018.

Our usual reminder service will go out by email and text as we draw closer to the dates listed above.

Please confirm that your child will be attending the summer scheme by either emailing or calling us on our mobile 07932539050 or office 0207 6138344.

Please bring along the tear off slip no later than Monday 30th August 2018
